The number one killer of any business is a slow website that looks terrible on a cell phone. You have about 3 seconds to get your prospect's attention... and then they're gone forever.
The short answer is... no.
There are a lot of people (and so called "design companies") that will tell you that they can build you a "custom built website" for less than $1,000. The truth is that they will install WordPress, Joomla, WIX or some other content management editor and use a paid theme designed to make these quick installs look good.
As long as you work within the "theme", the site will look reasonable. But is it really a custom web site? What if you want this element over there, or don't particularly like that color or effect? If you want the site to look exactly the way you want, you will be charged quite a lot for the work.
If that's what you really want, then I can do that for you and work with a particular theme if needed, but I would caution against it. All of the content management editors are extremely susceptible to hacking, are very slow (because they have so much extra code than really should be there) and are inherently unstable because they have to be updated all the time.
I have had to restore many WordPress installations that have been hacked over the years, or have stopped working exactly the way you want them to because of an update you implemented.
To be completely frank, Content Management Systems were invented for people that can't read basic HTML. They do work, but they come with a price. I don't go around hacking people's websites, but I have the knowledge to get into the admin section of just about any WordPress site out there. Do you really want to give your competitor the chance to get into your website?
There are very few people out there that have the knowledge and experience necessary to do a truly custom website. I am one of the few that can do it. I believe that every business website should be built in code only to protect the business from unauthorized access to their site.
I have studied great design principles - AT LENGTH. If you read my About Me page, you will see that it is my passion. I am also passionate about security, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and page load speed (I know, pretty geeky right!). It's just the way I am wired - anything I do has to be done perfectly (for websites, it has to be according to the strict Microsoft standards).
I will never cut corners to speed up a job. I just can't sleep at night and I always want to set the best example for my daughters.
