What to Look for in Field Service Software for a USVI HVAC, Plumbing, or Electrical Business

Field service software on the mainland is built for outfits running dozens of trucks across a metro area. None of that thinking transfers cleanly to a small crew on St. Thomas, St. Croix, or St. John. Here's what actually matters if you're that crew.

Jobs first, not appointments. An AC repair, a new unit install, and a panel upgrade are not the same kind of visit. One's an hour, one's a full day, one spans a permit and a follow-up two weeks later. Software that treats each job as its own thing, with its own type, price, and timeline, works a lot better than a flat calendar built for identical, interchangeable visits.

Second, you want to see who's actually free, not just a shared calendar everyone's squinting at. With a small crew, knowing which technician is available, and roughly where they already are, matters more than it does for a big dispatch center with fifty trucks to juggle. Each tech's day should be visible on its own, not buried in one undifferentiated schedule you're cross-referencing by hand.

Third, invoicing should follow the job. A repair, an install, and a multi-day upgrade all bill differently, and re-entering everything into a separate invoicing tool after the fact is exactly the kind of busywork this whole category of software is supposed to eliminate.

The trade services demo on this site is modeled on a Tutu, St. Thomas HVAC and electrical shop, and it's worth ten minutes of your time: jobs, technicians, and invoicing sized for a small crew, one board for a same-day repair and a multi-day install alike. If it looks close to what you're running, reach out.
