Why I'm Building This From the Mainland, for a Return to the U.S. Virgin Islands

aboutUSVIfounder story

I lived on St. Croix for a while, and it stuck with me in a way that's genuinely hard to explain to someone who hasn't spent real time there. Right now I'm on the mainland, working remotely, building custom software for clients across St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John, and working toward moving back with my family.

I could have waited until I was actually back on-island to start reaching out to local businesses. I didn't want to. This site exists now, with live working demos for the kinds of businesses that actually operate there: dental and medical practices, real estate agencies, resorts, boat charter operators, retail boutiques, restaurants and bars, law firms, trade services. Some of that is practical. Relationships with local business owners take time to build, and I'd rather start now than wait until after I've already relocated. Some of it is that I already know, from having lived there, what most software built for the U.S. Virgin Islands gets wrong, and I wasn't interested in waiting to start fixing it.

There's a difference between reading that a boutique resort's booking system needs to handle a room and a spa treatment in the same stay, and having actually seen it play out. Between knowing, in the abstract, that a duty-free retailer's product mix doesn't fit a mainland point-of-sale template, and watching someone try to force it to anyway. Living there taught me which parts of running a small business in the USVI are universal and which parts are genuinely different from doing the same thing somewhere else. That's the gap most outside software misses. It's the one I try to build into, not around.

This site will keep growing. More categories, more real content, more of what a business owner here actually needs to see before trusting someone to build their software. If you run a business in the Virgin Islands and want to see what purpose-built software could look like for you, the demo categories are free to explore, and I'd genuinely like to hear from you. Reach out any time.
